On the home front: what’s happening at the Savages
My kids did it! They survived the final week of school for 2020. Emi, Chloe and Elijah are so excited for winter break, and so am I. I have a junior and freshman in high school and a 4th grader in elementary school. It is amazing to see how grown up they are. Of course, they are still my little babes and always will be, however, I am so impressed with their dedication to learning and fulfilling their responsibilities with school. Emi was especially hard on herself and started crying when she learned that she got Bs in two of her classes. I told her to not the stress the small stuff and that, in fact, she had done great!
This year has been so hard and challenging for all of us, and honestly, more so for our children. They still are trying to understand the world we live in. It felt so good to comfort my daughter and tell her that she gave her best and that is all God wants from her. She looked up at me with tears in her eyes and said, “really?” It was as if she was shocked to learn that her effort was enough. And, I said yes and that I was really proud of her. If you are a parent, remember how much your kids love and need your approval, compassion and unconditional love. Our kids are our future and this is so exciting!
