I have always loved the adage ‘work smarter not harder’ because I like to work more efficiently without necessarily adding more effort. This general truth needed to apply to my daily morning beauty routine because with three kids, hubby and a puppy to care – mornings become a zoo if I don’t swoop in and work my magic. Sadly, with my brows in their current state – I was expending a lot of effort to get ready in the morning. Total downer!
Over the year I have finally felt comfortable with not having a full face of make up when dropping off the kids at school. I know, it is silly; but I love make up. However, with my brows it is a different story. My brows are sparse, uneven, and unsymmetrical and this makes me feel uncomfortable out in public. Okay, judge all you want. I think everyone has their own insecurities and mine have been my brows.
Completing my brow make up routine requires some time and concentration. I first use a brow pencil to create an outline and gently add faux hair strokes to fill in the larger patches and then dab an angle brush into brow powder to apply coloring to my brows for a full look. Yes, honey — this does indeed take some time! Some may say who cares? But, for me – it does matter. And, frankly I don’t have time for it because mornings at my house are a ZOO!
When I heard about eyebrow microblading — I instantly became intrigued. Microblading is the latest trend in creating the most natural looking eyebrows with hairstroke. Interestingly, this technique has been around for years under different names such as eyebrow embroidery, eyebrow microstroking, 3D brow, and HD brow. The manner of creating natural looking hairs is achieved by etching fine lines into the eyebrow using a hand tool.
The fine hairs created by the hand tool are semi-permanent unlike a tattoo that uses a needle and goes deeper into the skin. Microblading results can last anywhere to a 1 and upwards to 3 years depending on your lifestyle, skin type, etc., It is necessary to come in for touch-ups as the coloring will fade and new pigment needs to be deposited. I love the fact that it is not permanent because if I decide to change the shape of my eyebrow I can do that without worry.
Getting your brows microbladed is a two – step process. You have your initial appointment and then a touch – up appointment 4 to 6 weeks later. This is an important fact to know in case you are traveling for your service, planning a vacation, etc., There are many microblading specialists to choose from, so take your time to research, ask friends for recommendations, reading testimonials, investigate if they are properly licensed, and view before and after pics of their work to aide you in making the right choice.

Meet Charlene Erskine who is a certified microblading specialist! She is a miracle worker, my friends! I appreciated the fact that even before we met she took a ton of her personal time to answer all of my endless questions, explain the process in detail (about a million times), and followed through with appointment reminders. I truly felt like she cared about me as a client even before we met. Charlene’s business is called Flirt 3D Brows & Skincare and she has an office in Huntington Beach (it was totally worth the drive for me) and San Diego.
It was great that we worked as a team in the design process in creating the brows of my dreams! She carefully measured my bone structure, assessed the proper color for my brows, and identified the brow style that would both compliment my face and personal preference.
Not only is she skilled at her craft, but was also kind and observant in regards to my comfort level and concerns. During the sessions she would hold up the mirror to my face and show me the progress during the stages and I was HAPPY and EXCITED from the very beginning to end. Charlene was very conscientious in informing me that her blades were new and clean and took special care to prep my skin through each stage during the initial appointment.
This is my first blogging experience where I have sat down to write a blog post immediately after the experience because it was so impressionable! I wanted the details, my thoughts and feelings about eyebrow microblading to be fresh and relevant.

I know that the healing process with my microbladed brows will require a bit of time. But, it is worth it. I also need to care for them properly to ensure the outcome is excellent. But, I can tell you now that I feel beautiful! My face is framed properly with a set of incredible looking brows (I was going for a natural look – enhanced and defined). Tomorrow will be my first morning where I will wake up and not have to worry about prepping my eyes! And I can begin my day ‘working smarter – not harder’ and I like the sound of that!
Thank you Charlene Erskine of Flirt 3D Brows & Skincare for sponsoring my microblading. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting companies that I love!
P.S. I will definitely keep you updated with my touch-up appointment and show you the final results of my microblading experience with Charlene. So, please stay tuned!

Hi Maggie! I am so happy you found my blog post helpful! I am having thinking about for a long time too and so glad I was able to share my experience with my readers! Do, keep me posted okay? Thank you for visiting! xoxo
That is cool, it’s makes such a huge difference in bringing your eyes out. I have over waxed my eyebrows. So this is something I seriously want to look into, I don’t like the skinny eyebrow look that subsequently follows with over abuse with an eyebrow pencil. Doesn’t look remotely natural and what’s the point? Going to definitely check this out!
Hi Melanie! Thank you for the compliment! I am really enjoying this look! I am in the healing stages right now and can’t wait to see the final result! xoxo
