Menswear made Feminine: How to Style the Menswear Trend
The beauty of fashion is that everything is possible and democratic. One of the matches I am a huge fan of are clothes that combine menswear into delicate and sexy clothing for women. Creativity is the key, and we can enjoy it all.
Before the late 19th and early 20th century, women could not think of anything like this. Strict rules applied to men and women did not allow any changes. Women should wear only tight corsets, heavy petticoats, and loads of layers. Anything slightly masculine was censured. Men, by their turn, should wear pants, suits, ties, and blazers. However, this drawn line would not last forever.
Throughout the years, women have fought for the right of choosing more comfortable clothes for daily life. This was a long process, and many were reprimanded for it. During the 20s, Coco Chanel was one of the most influential fashion designers and embraced some male pieces into her own wardrobe. Yves Saint Laurent also took menswear to the women’s world. According to him, the tuxedo for women was an indispensable outfit, that should be considered as a style, not only fashion.
The growing movement of empowering women inspired the fashion designers and paved the road for the menswear made feminine of our days.
We have power and embracing male garments is a way of showing the world we can. No need to lose our femininity, delicacy and cheerful spirit. Coco Chanel, Katherine Hepburn, and Marlene Dietrich rocked on trousers and never lost their status as one of the most charming and alluring women.
Recently I have been having some fun with menswear-inspired dresses. Shein’s Double-Breasted Fitted Dress was one of the dresses I decided to bring up. It has a pencil skirt, a double golden button on the top, and a gorgeous double-breasted collar. The menswear details were a great match with the slim figure, creating a sexy and elegant outfit. Perfect for work or a casual date.
Incorporating men’s apparel into your outfit definitely enables you to match some interesting patterns, beyond the traditional ones found on tailored clothing for women. Don’t be shy about trying it!
Masculine outfits you can add on your wardrobe
1. Oversized T-shirts
You can turn oversized t-shirts into perfect dresses. Myself? I would pair this look with leggings or cropped jeans. Wrapping a belt usually do the trick for the waist, and accessories will help to deliver a feminine look.
2. Jackets
Pairing masculine jackets with dresses or lacy clothing is always fun and gives you a gorgeous aesthetic.
3. Tailor it for you
If you like it, just take it. You can choose any item you love and tailor it to your size or shape. Shirts can turn into tops, pants into shorts. The world is yours! Just be careful with the balance between oversized and tight clothes to create the best outfit.
Do you also have some men’s garments or outfit you just love and steal to your own wardrobe? Don’t forget to share with me, I love to hear from all of you!

This trend seems to fall into and out of style quite frequently. In addition to your tips, pairing the style with something feminine doesn’t make it appear overly dramatic. Love the double-breasted fitted dress!
I’m loving this whole look! The earrings puts a touch of feminine and chic to pull it all together!
I don’t have anything that I’ve taken and turned more feminine, but I do steal my husband’s clothes sometimes for something comfortable around the house. I bought him a pair of pajama pants one of our first Christmas’s together, and I think he only wore them once before I took them for myself!!
That dress is amazing. It’s so professional without looking stuffy. I love the cross body purse paired with it too. What a great outfit!
I absolutely love this concept! The dress is gorgeous. I could totally see myself wearing that.
Such a fan of the feminine menswear look! So cute on you girl!
Great looking outfits, I think my wife would love something along those lines.
Wow, you look incredible! I live a menswear inspired look. There’s something so flattering about the structure and fit.
Cool ideas you have here! I have always loved stealing my boyfriends’ T-shirts. They just fit so well. I think I still keep some stolen ones from some of my exes that I still wear every now and then 😀
That’s so interesting Debbie! When I read your title I wasn’t expecting to see a dress actually, it was surprising!
Suck a gorgeous style! I love that the earrings and purse pull it ask together and give it that feminine touch. Gorgeous.
Exactly, why not mix things up a little. Love the earrings for sure. Fab piccys too by the way xx
