Hosiery Reinvented: Reasons Why Women Wear Hosiery
Hosiery was originally created to help women conform to the social norm of having their legs covered whenever they left the house. Thank goodness pantyhose has been reinvented! Wearing hosiery is more than keeping your legs warm during colder months. Hosiery is a fashion statement and I am a total fan! Traditional dress codes of keeping your legs covered with legwear have been transformed into trendier and more appealing options. Hosiery is more than just a mere undergarment. It is a liberating form of self-expression.
Pantyhose has evolved into a creative fashion element that sets an outfit apart. It is an easy and fun way to add visual interest. Ladies, it is time to create some leg drama! It adds another layer to your look by showcasing your individual style and vibe. Today’s hosiery has benefitted from this redesign, which has changed the perception of its former role. It is more than just for warmth. It is a fashion statement.
I once thought pantyhose, hosiery, legwear, leggings…whatever you want to call it, was restrictive and uncomfortable. I would rather freeze than wear any at all. Now, I look for opportunities to showcase my legwear of choice. There are so many styles, colors, patterns and compression levels to choose from. The options are endless. Now more than ever, there is more than just one reason why women wear hosiery. And if you had the mindset like me, “No to hose!” then let me share with you why every woman should give pantyhose a try.
Reasons Why Women Should Wear Hosiery
- It’s suited for different body shapes and sizes
One can almost find the perfect hosiery for their body regardless of their leg type or shape. It is important to appreciate your body shape in determining the best hosiery to use. Darker colors make a lady look slimmer while other color shades, especially those matched with heels, make a leg line appear longer. There is also hosiery for pregnant women and for those who prefer more support and contour for their derrière.
- It’s available in many different colors and styles
The hosiery garment is available in different patterns and colors, which make them easier to match with different accessories and outfits. For instance, a dark hose can be coordinated with a black skirt and complimented with a simple white or colored shirt into a look that suits a casual or official occasion. Today, hosiery outfits are fitted with trendy patterns, such as polka dots and plaid. This adds splash and uniqueness to an otherwise simple and ordinary look. Or choose hosiery that showcases your favorite fashion label. Consider yourself a walking advertisement. This can’t be different from sporting your favorite designer handbag, right?
- It’s affordable
Hosiery offers a simple yet inexpensive way to incorporate different styles and trends into your look. Looking for a fresh way to wear your old skirt or shorts? Look no further than your typical colored or pattern hosiery. Pantyhose offers an opportunity to express your creative self in an affordable way with low commitment.
Do you wear pantyhose? How do you feel about hosiery? Do you use it to conceal your legs or to express them? There is no right or wrong answer. It is all about freedom of expression!

I adore feminine stylish looks and find this look to be so. Hosiery is a very sexy yet elegant element of ladies’ garment. Your white ruffle sleeve top is very trendy. Very elegant look.
Thank you so much Linda!
LOOOOVE this look!!! I’m grabbing some hose and a mini for the weekend!! Soo cute!! #imabeliever
Hi Amanda! I can’t wait to see your look!
I used to wear hosiery all the time but I realize I haven’t in awhile. Thanks for the reminder, I love how sexy it makes me feel!
So, true! It is quite sexy!
I rarely wear hosiery to be honest… I’m usually in trousers! I love the ones you are wearing though – they look really good!
I love trousers too! When you do wear hose – dots are so cute!
I also think that hosiery makes outfits a bit more work-appropriate, even if it’s sheer! My favorite pair is sparkly black . . . it’s so unique and adds a little fun to every outfit!
Sparkly black sounds amazing! You could wear that pattern with everything!
I love the hosiery you are wearing! That is so interesting – I had no idea that it was first invented so women could cover their legs to conform to society!
I know! It is definitely an interesting fact in women’s fashion history. xo
I don’t know if I’ve ever worn hosiery! I’m sure my mom made me when I was little, but I don’t care for it. Then again, I haven’t tried any stylish ones like you have on. Maybe I could try something like this with the right outfit.
Yes, you can definitely give it a try!
This looks is absolutely gorgeous. I must get myself something that nice soon. I love it.
Thank you so much Marjie Mare! xo
Thank you so much Linda!
In general I’ve only ever worn hosiery to keep myself warm. But I have owned a few fun pairs for that exact task and I’m okay with that.
Such a great look and sexy feel. Need to get one.
I love that style! The only time I wear hose is a winter wedding!
Polka dots and ruffles are my favorite! You look gorgeous and I love that hosiery.
I just love the fun patterns; you rock the polka dots. And you are right … pantyhose are not longer the restrictive, boring undergarments they used to be! But I still think they “warm up” an outfit. 😉
I am the type of person who hates hosiery/pantyhoses. I rarely wear them as they are hard to get on and I always create holes in them. They are annoying for me.
I haven’t worn them in ages and don’t miss them at all. Are they still a thing for women?
