It has been a long time since sharing my last recipe, which was an easy Butterfinger Poke Cake. Today’s post is equally delicious but far more healthy, and I think you will love my version of Protein Brownies adapted from BodyBuilding.com. I have made several versions of a protein brownie and this one by far is the best. It is easy to make and also dairy and gluten-free!
Who out there is a fan of brownies? I am obsessed with brownies and know that I have to have it as a dessert. Whether I am trying to lose weight or maintaining it, these healthy black bean protein brownies are absolutely delicious and a part of my meal planning.
I have such a sweet tooth and these brownies definitely satisfy this craving without any guilt. Each brownie contains 9 grams and this helps me stay fuller longer. Each day I factor two of these delicious brownies and enter the macros in Myfitnesspal. Sometimes, I like to spread Walden Farms’ calorie-free chocolate sauce or smooth creamy peanut butter on them. The texture is not like your typical gooey brownie, but more cake-like and dense. It is honestly one of my most favorite desserts when dieting. I love that they contain protein and fiber. This chocolate treat tastes so good and is good for you.
Below are a few of the main ingredients in my favorite healthy black bean brownie recipe. Make sure to have this on hand and let’s not forget the importance of a good protein powder. Definitely choose a chocolate protein whey flavor: not only will this add to the chocolatey taste of the brownies, but it will also help improve athletic performance and increase strength. This is important for women who are weightlifting especially and need extra support to maintain or grow muscles.
Black beans are versatile, cholesterol free and high in fiber. A great option for protein.
Low in calories and have no fats or carbohydrates. Egg whites are high in protein.
Chalk full of nutrients and antioxidants. Cocoa powder contains little or no added sugar.
I like to add a bit of espresso powder to enhance the taste of chocolate.
Directions:
This recipe is easy peasy to make. You will need to use an immersion blender, food processor or blender. I love mixing all the ingredients in my KitchenAid blender. Just put all the ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. After blending, the batter will be like that for a pancake, perhaps more on the runny side. If it is too runny, add a tbsp or more of coconut flour until it thickens. If you find that your batter is too thick, then add an extra egg white or two. After making this a few times, you will come to master the consistency of the batter and won’t be surprised by it. Check out my favorite measuring spoons and measuring cups that I use for baking and cooking.
Make sure the oven is preheated to 160°C or 320°F. You know your batter is ready when it is smooth and somewhat thick, but runny enough that it is pourable. Use a non-stick silicone flexible spatula to scrape all of the batter from the sides of the container. Bake it in an 8–inch square cake pan. This pan from USA Pan Bakeware is my favorite because of the non–stick quick–release coating. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting. I like to cut them into 12 equal–sized pieces and then I wrap them individually in clear plastic wrap and store them in my fridge. ENJOY!
