Giving as a family strengthens our family bond. It also teaches our children about compassion. When we give as a family, we reinforce our family value of giving back. And the most poignant time to do that is during the holiday season. The family unit is the perfect setting to model and to learn charity firsthand. Traditions of giving that were instilled in our families play a big role in how we choose to give today. Let’s motivate our kids to give. To be quite honest, I think kids understand the idea of “giving” more than adults. While many have the luxury to shop for gifts this holiday season, there are so many others who don’t.
Every holiday season, we have a tradition of giving back to our community in a variety of ways. These include volunteering our time at church or school and donating food and financial assistance to families in need. This holiday season, my eldest daughter even took part in a community service project, where she helped to plant 800 trees in our city. Also, utilizing the power of the internet and discovering new charities or ones dear to your heart are other uncomplicated ways to give.

Teach Your Children the Spirit of Kindness
Our AmazonSmile charity is HIS dual-immersion elementary school (Spanish/English program). Compared to other schools in the area, HIS elementary school has a higher percentage of low-income families. However, what really soars and makes a difference in the lives of the students is the teachers’ commitment to education and instruction. The staff members do their best to provide as many programs as they can to make their students’ education enriching.

I love that AmazonSmile helps to make supporting my son’s school so easy. Now there is another reason why shopping on Amazon is my go-to choice. Amazon donates a percentage of the price of your eligible purchase to the public charitable organization of your choice. The one-time setup takes less than a minute, and you get the same prices, products, and services you’re used to when shopping at Amazon. Don’t worry; it doesn’t cost you any extra; the only difference is now you’re giving to the charity organization of your choice every time you shop.
Giving is Good for You
Giving as a family is a special way to sweeten family ties and connections and share similar values. Instilling family giving traditions among your family members has a tremendous rippling effect and motivates future generations to be philanthropic. Involving your children at an early age helps them to develop a sense of responsibility and charity. Whether it be through giving time, volunteering, or donating money, remember to give back. This is because while others can afford to shop for gifts, there are many out there who can’t.
